there was a nineteen-year-old girl with a passion for baking. Her dream was to finish her Bachelors of Arts in English Language and pack her bags for pastry school. When she thought about what life would look like five years from then, she pictured this:
January 2015- Apply to George Brown College and the Pacific Culinary Institute of Vancouver
May 2015- Graduate from UBC with a BA in English Language and a minor in Psychology
September 2015- Start at George Brown College: Baking and Pastry Arts Management
May 2018- Graduate!
After that she wanted to work at a resort or hotel and move onto working on a cruise ship to understand how to whip up enough desserts to feed thousands of buffet goers. Once all that was said and done she dreamed of having her own business, she’d call it Mooch.
And that probably would have been the reality…but life never goes the way you plan it. Mooch was started in November 2012 after getting an order for two dozen cupcakes and then a full 40 for a corporate meeting! And now, here we are. Mooch started 2013 off with a bang; within the first three months 97 cupcakes were made to order! And Mooch isn’t ready to sit back and relax, since the company is young it can afford to try new things and take risks.
Where do I see Mooch going? Hopefully up! With the help of Mooch’s Test Kitchen I plan on expanding the menu. Since Mooch only makes things to order, I would like to cater to events and make edible party favours. How sweet would it be to attend a child’s party and have a candied apple to take home? I can see Summer 2013 being a big stepping stone as to where Mooch will go in the future. Mooch isn’t just a business to me, it’s my passion.
